Following a grant from Foundation Scotland’s Response, Recovery & Resilience Fund, SKapade Education is able to provide a range of online music education to young people throughout lockdown.

Before the current restrictions, the award-winning SKapade Education team were regularly working with schools, charities and non-profit organisations to unveil the potential of thousands of young people every week.

Foundation Scotland’s ‘Community Response, Recovery and Resilience Fund’ means SKapade Education can carry on providing young people with the same level of industry-standard education as before, by establishing crucial online learning resources for all levels of aspiring DJs.

With the launch of these online tutorials, SKapade will aim to provide free access to production training across a range of electronic devices - including phones and tablets - and as the only official Pioneer DJ production school in Scotland, all SKapade Education students will receive an accredited certificate upon course completion. Skapade Studios, which was built on an ethos of inclusivity, will, therefore, be able to reach a huge number of young people digitally across Scotland whilst face-to-face workshops and training sessions remain on hold.

The courses have been filmed and broken down into bitesize chunks, encouraging young people to sustain an enjoyable pace of learning. Skapade Studios recognises it is more important than ever to support young people’s creativity which, in the current climate, can be difficult. The new online training aims not only to boost creativity but to directly tackle lockdown-induced feelings of loneliness, isolation and increased mental health problems, by providing a positive support and learning network which are both manageable and fun.

SKapade Studios is centred around bolstering teamwork, community spirit and positive education for Scotland’s young people, regardless of the background of circumstances. The effect this has is invaluable, with 90% of previous students reporting an increase in motivation and life satisfaction after attending a SKapade Education workshop.

Claire Hart, Funding Manager for SKapade Education said: “In these very challenging and quite often isolating times, it’s more important than ever to ensure our young people aren’t missing out on vital training and development whilst they’re off school. Our mission is simple: let’s inspire lifelong learning, promote positivity and strengthen our communities through inclusion and education.

“SKapade Education CIC is delighted to announce we have been supported by Foundation Scotland to create a brand new range of exciting virtual training programmed for young people, completely free of charge.  These easy-to-follow courses will teach all levels of DJing, beginner, through to advanced, and transfer our face-to-face learning into digitally accessible courses through any smartphone, tablet or PC.  These free courses will ensure young people can continue to engage with Skapade’s online community and access free, fun, informative training at a level and pace which suits them.

“The SKapade Education team are very much looking forward to continuing our work in schools across Scotland, but in the meantime, we're proud to support young people through our digital platform training programs.  Many thanks to Foundation Scotland for supporting our organisation!”
