We’re a state of the art, independent studio based in Dumbarton, Scotland which offers music production training in various styles of electronic music. We provide one to one tuition, track engineering, mastering, mixing, podcasting, youth training and personal development. Along with this we endeavour to give back to our local, creative community and support aspiring artists and young people who are interested in music.

SKapade was pioneered by Stephen Kirkwood, an established name in the dance music scene with releases on some of the biggest labels in the world, such as, Spinnin Records, Ministry of Sound, Blackhole Recordings, GoodGreef, Outburst Records and Lange Recordings. Also on board with the community based venture is manager Steven Galloni, who has been a long term friend of Stephen Kirkwood got involved with Skapade at the start of 2015 and has a background in acting, radio broadcasting and stand up comedy.

Other members of staff include Stuart Mclellan of 2nd Phase and Nico Mendez of Erase and UM Records. Between them, the team have a wealth of experience in all aspects of electronic music production and live performance and give clients a unique opportunity to work closely with them. We have strong Scottish roots and the team spends a lot of time visiting schools and youth groups to run workshops alongside local social enterprise groups. Along with this, we regularly attend universities and colleges as guest lecturers to make presentations about life in the creative industries inspiring young entrepreneurs and to tell our story on why we started. We aim to cover a number of topics including events management, sales and business management along with music based tuition workshops and activities. We encourage and motivate young people to explore their creative side, while promoting a message that they can work in an area they’re passionate about, rather than aiming for more regimented, corporate careers, as they’re often encouraged to in school. As a result of this, we became partners with the Prince’s Trust, who’ve been very supportive of our business. This gave us the opportunity to expand further and spend more time planning and running creative projects throughout Scotland.

With clients regularly visiting to spend time in the studio with our resident producers, our latest venture is an intimate beginners course. These classes will be taken by Stuart and Stephen and will give students an introduction to electronic dance music. Each student will be guided through completing a track throughout the duration of the course. This will give them experience in the creative process from start to finish and will allow them to develop ideas on a sound, genre or style of their choice.
